Image Best Practices
Preparing Image Files for Upload
- Upload images in PNG or JPG format. Use a high resolution image (at least 1024px) so that the image will display properly, even on very large devices. Rayos automatically creates an array of optimized images at various sizes and loads in the appropriate image for the device that is being used.
- Using descriptive, keyword-rich file names is important for SEO. Search engines not only crawl the text on your webpage, but they also search for keywords within your image file names. For example, a file name such as2017-Emerald-City-Festival.jpg is much better than a generic camera-generated name like DCMIMAGE10.jpg.
Image Attachment Details

You have the option to add or edit image details when placing an image in your article. This image meta data is important for SEO purposes and to help visually impaired users understand your images.
URL
This is URL of the image. The URL is generated by the file name when the image is uploaded. This field is not editable.
Image Title
The default title is based on the filename of the image. Example: a filename of “cowardly-lion.jpg” will result in a title of “cowardly-lion.”
TownNews recommends always giving images a manually created, descriptive title for the following reasons:
- If used in a gallery, the image title may appear to end users
- Descriptive titles make it easier for you to find your image for re-use in the future when searching the media library
- Descriptive titles improve the SEO value of your images. Search engines can’t tell what your images depict and need help understanding the content of your images.
