Content Scheduling
Future publish an article
By default, an article publishes immediately after you hit the Publish button, but you can schedule an article to publish at any time in the future by following these steps:
- In the Publish box on the Article edit screen, click the Edit link next to Publish immediately.
- Set a future publish date and time.
Note: Time must be entered using the 24-hour clock (military time) - Click OK
Instead of Publish immediately, it will now say Schedule for: followed by the date and time you specified, and the button will changed from Publish to Schedule.
- Click Schedule
The article will remain in Draft status until future publish date.
Expire an article
By default, an article will remain published indefinitely. In specific instances, like a contest with a submission deadline, you may want an article to automatically expire from your site and become automatically unpublished at a set time in the future.
- Open an existing article or create a new article
- In the Publish box on the article edit screen, click the Edit link next to Expires.
- Set an expiration date and time.
Note: Time must be entered using the 24-hour clock (military time) - Click Set.
- Click Update.
Important: TownNews does not recommend expiring regular article content from your site. Doing so will have a negative SEO impact. This feature should be reserved for use in special cases like contests or promotion with a specific reason for needing to be removed from the site.
Can I change the publish date of an article to a time in the past?
Yes, to backdate a post, simply edit the date before you click Publish, as described above. In this case, the button will not change to Schedule.
How do I un-schedule an article?
If you’ve scheduled an article to publish in the future, but changed your mind and want to publish it immediately:
- Click Edit next to the date for which you’ve scheduled your article.
- Enter the current date and time as your scheduled publish time.
- Click OK.
- Click Publish and your post will be published immediately.
How do I remove an expiration time on an article?
- In the Publish box on the article edit screen, click the Edit link next to Expires.
- Click Remove
- Click Update.
What is the difference between expiring an article and expiring a pin on a list?
Setting an expiration time on an article will result in that article being automatically un-published at the specified time so that it is no longer accessible to website visitors or search engines.
Expiring an article from its pinned position in a content list only removes the link to that article from the list. An article that has expired from a pinned position in a content list is still published and available via search and category archive pages.
