FTP Content

There are some systems and software that will allow you to share certain content with TownNews via an FTP Process. Rayos integrates with the following systems as part of our core product offering:

  • Weather Images (Any weather system)
  • Closings Systems (BTI, Chyron)
  • Elections (BTI)

It is also possible to set up a custom FTP process. For more information on integrating with other systems, contact our customer support team.

Initial Configuration

Hostnames
When accessing a RAYOS site via SFTP, you should use one of the following, depending on which datacenter your site is hosted on. If you are unsure contact our support team.

  • Midwest Data Center: sftp.us-midwest-1.vip.tn-cloud.net
  • East Coast Data Center: sftp.us-east-1.vip.tn-cloud.net

Settings

  • Site Name: Provides a name to save this account so you don’t have to retype this information every time you wish to log in.
  • Host Name: Input the proper hostname based on the options in Hostnames above.
  • Username: 4- or 5-digit number supplied to you by TownNews. You may NOT request a specific user name as this ID number is supplied by our software.
  • Password: Will also be supplied to you by TownNews.com. You MAY request a specific password.
  • Port Number: You are using SFTP and should use port 122.
  • PASV: ‘Passive’ should be checked. If you are using SFTP then SSH/SFTP should also be checked. Do not Use Proxy.
  • Log In: After you have saved your settings you can log in.

Weather Images

FTP Location Protocol: SFTP

Host Name: This can vary depending on your data center.

Put images in the folder /html/content/uploads/weather-images

Naming Convention files can be GIF, JPG or PNG.

  • Names must have no spaces (use underscores or dashes if formatting is needed)
  • Names can include numbers and letters, but no special characters
  • Once uploaded and used on the site using shortcode described below, names cannot change unless the shortcode on the site is also updated
Implementation Images can be pulled into pages using using the following steps:

  1. Edit the page using the Template Builder.
  2. Press the (+) button to add a new element.
  3. Select the Weather Image element.
  4. In the Weather Image Settings popup box, find the File dropdown menu. Select the Weather Image you want to appear from the dropdown menu.
  5. Press Save.

Only images already being sent to the server via the FTP process will appear in the dropdown menu.

Images can be pulled into articles by using following shortcode as the image URL:
<img src=”[expire_image src=’/wp-content/uploads/weather-images/name_of_file.gif’]” alt=”” />

TownNews best practices state each weather image file should remain under 5MB.

Closings

Name must have no spaces (use underscores or dashes if formatting is needed)
Names can include numbers and letters, but no special characters
Once uploaded and configured, name cannot change
Implementation Once uploaded, the Rayos Development Team will update your site configuration to pull the file with that exact name into the closings plugin.

All Rayos FTP content is updated every 10 minutes.

BTI Elections

FTP Location Protocol: SFTP

Names can include numbers and letters, but no special characters
Once uploaded and configured, name cannot change
Implementation Once uploaded, the Rayos Development Team will update your site configuration to pull the file with that exact name into the elections plugin.

In Elections, assign a date to the race:

  1. Create a race date under Dates
  2. In Races, select all races for a specific date and Bulk Edit
  3. Assign the Date

To add the election data to articles:

  1. Copy the shortcode in the Edit Race screen
  2. Paste the shortcode into the article

Shortcodes can include a specific race or all races from a single date

To add election data to pages:

  1. Navigate to the page
  2. Add a visual composer element: Elections
  3. Choose which election data to display: single race by title or races by date

All Rayos FTP content is updated every 10 minutes.
