Creating A New Category

Categories and tags are metadata (information) about the article that tells WordPress, plugins, search engines, and website visitors what each article is about.

Categories tell the WORLD what your site is about. They are the main outline of your site’s content and should be SEO friendly, concise, and fairly steady over time.

Creating A New Category

  1. Go to Articles > Categories
  2. Enter a category name in the Name field
  3. Create or let WordPress generate a slug in the Slug field which will generate the URL for the category archive
    • To use a WordPress-generated slug (recommended): Leave the slug field empty and WordPress will automatically generate a slug based on the category name. For example, if your category was ‘Entertainment News’ WordPress would automatically create a slug of ‘entertainment-news.’
    • To create your own slug: Use only lowercase letters and put a dash between each word
  4. Determine if your category is public or hidden. Hidden categories will not be seen by website visitors.
  5. Assign a Category Group
    • To select an existing group: Select the group name from drop-down menu.
    • To create a new group: If you need to create a new group, hover over the dropdown selector and click on the plus sign that appears. Once clicked, a pop up will appear with the option to create a new group.
  6. Assign the Custom Ad Path.
